BOXTOROW Polls: FAMU unanimous No. 1 in HBCU football for the first time, 11/12/2019
While FAMU had a bye week, losses coupled with upsets caused shifts in both the BOXTOROW Coaches and Media Polls. The Rattlers are the unanimous No. 1 in both polls for the first time in the history of the polls.
Alcorn State, North Carolina A&T and Bethune-Cookman all lost which caused some movement in the coaches poll. While Alcorn lost to Grambling, the Braves remained No. 2. N.C. A&T fell one spot to No. 4 this week after its loss to Morgan State, while Bethune-Cookman dropped three spots to No. 7 after its loss to Delaware State. South Carolina State defeated Howard and made the biggest jump, three spots to No. 3.
Undefeated Bowie State gained its highest ranking of the season, now at No. 2 in the media poll, up two spots from last week. Alcorn’s drop was most significant, down three spots to No. 5. Grambling reentered the poll at No. 10.
Despite the Aggies’ and Wildcats’ losses, both – the Aggies more so – control their own destinies to the MEAC championship and appearance in the Celebration Bowl beginning this Saturday in Greensboro when the two meet. This is one of many games that will have conference and poll implications next week.
The BOXTOROW HBCU FCS coaches poll and media poll is administered by FROM THE PRESS BOX TO PRESS ROW. The coaches poll, in its 11th year is voted on by the HBCU Football Championship Subdivision coaches and the media poll, in its 13th year, is voted on by media members around the country who cover HBCU football.
