UAlbany and Bryant Student-Athletes Comprise More Than Half of Preseason All-NEC Team

SOMERSET, NJ - Defending champion UAlbany and Bryant each placed a league-high six players on the 25-member 2012 Preseason All-Northeast Conference Football Team, the composition of which the NEC announced on Thursday morning via both Twitter and a media teleconference.
Duquesne, which shared the 2011 title with UAlbany but lost the head-to-head matchup, also enjoyed a strong presence on the Preseason All-NEC Team. The Dukes’ three selections mean that the top-three teams (UAlbany, Duquesne, Bryant) in the league’s preseason coaches’ poll accounted for 60 percent of the spots on the team.

ST. LOUIS, MO. (Courtesy of the Missouri Sports Magazine) – Missouri State senior tight end Matt Thayer (Bellevue, Neb.) and sophomore linebacker Andrew Beisel (Fenton, Mo.) were part of the Missouri Valley Football Conference’s preseason all-conference teams announced Thursday (Aug. 2) by the 10-member conference.
Two of the Bears’ top returners, Thayer and Beisel are both honorable mention selections to the 2012 Preseason All-MVFC team as voted on by the conference’s head coaches, media and sports information directors.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Wofford senior running back Eric Breitenstein has been named the Southern Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while Georgia Southern senior defensive lineman Brent Russell has been named the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in voting conducted by the league's head coaches. Breitenstein and Russell were named Players of the Year following the 2011 season and also garnered the same preseason honors one year ago.
The league's head coaches also selected an all-conference first and second team in conjunction with the league's media day on Thursday (July 26). Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes as part of the balloting.
Patriot League Football Preseason All-League Teams and Major Awards Announced

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh senior wide receiver Ryan Spadola and Georgetown senior linebacker Robert McCabe have been selected as the top returnees on each side of the ball entering the 2012 Patriot League football season, it was announced on Wednesday during the sport's Media Day at Green Pond Country Club.
Spadola, who made numerous All-America teams last year and is a candidate for the Walter Payton Award as the Most Outstanding Player in the Football Championship Subdivision, was chosen as the Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. McCabe took home the League's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year honor.
