MISSOULA, MT. — Jabin Sambrano was a genuine playoff hero at Washington-Grizzly Stadium before Montana's 48-10 victory over Northern Iowa on Friday night in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I Football Championships.
Quarterback Jordan Johnson wrote his name into that pantheon of stars for the first time before a national television audience and the 23,049 fans that watched in person.
And because of their efforts and a lot of other strong performances by Grizzly teammates, Montana found it easy to steam into the semifinals of the Football Championship Subdivision tournament for the third time in four years.

FARGO, N.D. — Let's say you're a Lehigh player right now.
Today, you learned that your star receiver, junior WR Ryan Spadola, was suspended by the NCAA by making an offensive tweet.
To call it a distraction would be the understatement of the year.
No Lehigh team has ever gone through this. Heck, no team has ever gone through this. No player has been suspended by the NCAA for tweeting something.

HUNTSVILLE, TX. —
It comes as no surprise that a game at Sam Houston State would feature a lot of athletes who played their high school ball in Texas.
It might come as a surprise, though, how many of those athletes are suiting up for the Montana State Bobcats.
There are 20 Texans on the Bobcats roster, including star quarterback DeNaruis McGhee, who, along with starting linebacker Na'a Moeakiola (39 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions) and reserve linebacker Tray Robinson (6 tackles), come from Trinity High School, one of the most powerful high school programs in the football-crazed state.

PHILADELPHIA, PA. — Northern Iowa and Montana are no strangers to the NCAA Division I Football Championships, as two of the powerhouse programs in the Football Championship Subdivision.
But when the No. 4-seeded Grizzlies (10-2) and the No. 5-seeded Panthers (10-2) square off Friday night at Washington-Grizzly Stadium in Missoula, MT. in the quarterfinals, it will be a rare encounter between the top teams historically in western and midwestern regions.
UNI and Montana, teams that shared league titles in the Missouri Valley Football Conference and the Big Sky Conference this season, have met five times, twice in the NCAA playoffs.
The Griz took a 23-20 decision over Northern Iowa in 1994 in a first-round playoff game behind the play of quarterback Dave Dickenson.
Montana has found memories of a 38-0 semifinal victory over Northern Iowa in Missoula in 2001, a win that vaulted the Grizzlies into the national championship game against Furman a week later and UM scored its second NCAA crown with 13-6 win over the Paladins.
