Eastern Washington Outlasts Illinois State For 51-35 Victory

NORFOLK, VA. — Kyle Padron wasn't expecting to spend a good chunk of the 2012 college football season on the Eastern Washington bench when he transferred in the off-season from SMU.
But the junior quarterback fired six touchdown passes, including game-breaking strikes of 47 and 17 and 76 yards to All-American receiver Brandon Kaufman in the second half to lift the second-seeded Eagles to a 51-35 quarterfinal victory against Illinois State at Roos Field in Cheney, WA.
Eastern Washington (11-2), the 2010 national champion, will host 2011 runner-up Sam Houston State either next Friday, or Saturday in the Football Championship Subdivision semifinals.
Sam Houston State knocked off Montana State for the second straight year in the quarterfinals, 34-16, on Friday night.

Big Fourth Quarter Lifts Georgia Southern Past Old Dominion

NORFOLK, VA. — In a game dominated by offense, who would have figured that a handful of defensive plays would earn Georgia Southern a trip to another NCAA Division I Football semifinal with a 49-35 victory over Old Dominion?
Georgia Southern came away with a fumble recovery, an interception and a fourth-down stop at the ODU 39 on three crucial Monarch drives in the fourth quarter as the Eagles turned 35-21 deficit into 28 unanswered points in the final period before a 29th-straight capacity crowd of 20,068 at Ballard Stadium.
The No. 5 Eagles (10-3) earned a rematch against top-seeded and defending national champion North Dakota either next Friday or Saturday in Fargo, N.D. The Bison squeezed out a 14-7 win over Wofford at home Saturday in the quarterfinals.
NDSU beat Georgia Southern 35-7 in last year's semifinals.

Sam Houston State Knocks Off Montana State Again In Quarterfinals

NORFOLK, VA. — Montana State had waited an entire year for a rematch with Sam Houston State.
Be careful what you wish for.
The second meeting between the Bobcats and the Bearkats ended much like the first, with SHSU dominating No. 3-seeded MSU again for a 34-16 victory in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I Football Championships from Bozeman, MT.
Sam Houston State quarterback Brian Bell hit 11-of-21 passes for 254 yards and three touchdowns and receiver Trey Diller caught three passes for 104 yards as the Bearkats (10-3) exploited the Montana State secondary throughout the evening.

Winston-Salem State, SWAC Championship The Talk Of HBCU Football

BIRMINGHAM, AL. — The Southwestern Conference football championship and Winston-Salem State's run to the NCAA Division II semifinals are two hot topics this week in the world of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
But first, let's take time to look a major upset from last Saturday.
Last week’s Pioneer Bowl game – which pits the SIAC representative against the CIAA representative – was a shocker.
Elizabeth City State defeated the favorite Tuskegee Golden Tigers, 28-13.
