In what was to be the last regular season weekend, there was a lot on the line in all conference races to determine the participants in the five Group of Five conference title games. It was also a week in a normal, non-COVID-19 season that would have ended with the Army-Navy game. While that game […]
Six players including Israel Tucker from Louisiana Tech, Michael Pratt from Tulane, Carson Strong from Nevada, Blaze Alldredge from Rice, Jeffery Gunter from Coastal Carolina, and Zack Long from Tulsa have been selected as the College Sports Journal All-Stars for the week ending Dec. 7, 2020 from the NCAA Division I FBS Group of Five […]
In a game that happened basically overnight, it turned out to be one that many are calling an instant classic. The game was BYU at Coastal Carolina—a match-up of two 9-0 teams coming into the game made possible due to the Chanticleers cancelation with its game with Liberty due to COVID-19 reasons amongst the Flames […]
Louisiana at Appalachian StateWhen: Friday, Dec. 4th, 8:30 PM ESTWhere: Kidd Brewer Stadium, Boone, N.C.TV/Streaming: ESPN/WatchESPN (subscription req’d) This was the game that before the season started was what I had predicted to be again for the Sun Belt Conference championship for the third straight season. This was the week that the first College Football Playoff rankings came out and to say the least, I was surprised with the rankings. Below were the Committee’s rankings from this past Tuesday. I was not too surprised with the teams selected, although I thought Liberty should have been in the Top 25 given its […]

The undefeated teams just stay that way in the Group of Five this week. Cincinnati, Liberty, and Marshall all picked up easy victories this week. BYU and Coastal Carolina were off this week. The Group of Five undefeated teams just stay undefeated. The five schools (that have played four games or more) coming into this week stayed that way with all picking up rather easy wins this week. The group includes BYU, Cincinnati, Liberty, Coastal Carolina, and Marshall. BYU played in arguably the top match-up of the weekend […]

Cincinnati has made two statements in a row. Last week, the Bearcats blew out SMU on the road and followed that up with another blowout against last year’s Group of Five’s best Memphis. The Bearcats got a little revenge from losing to the Tigers twice last year, including the AAC title game. This time, Cincinnati won 49-10.

Wow, what a game in Memphis even if both American Athletic Conference teams were coming off of losses coming into this game. This is not the first time these two teams have thrilled us. In 2017, the American Athletic Conference was settled with a wild 62-55 UCF win in double overtime, after Memphis had erased […]

This week was the weekend of Hurricane Delta. The highly anticipated match-up of two undefeated Sun Belt teams in Louisiana and Coastal Carolina was to happen this Saturday but that game was moved to next week Wednesday. But the weekend was still full of great action with two American Athletic Conference teams finally getting on […]
The usual cast of characters atop the Big 12 Conference leader board finds themselves looking up, not only to foes, but at foes not normally perched atop the league standings.

It was upset week in the American Athletic Conference this week with two of the predicted contenders going down. Both UCF and Memphis took losses but the other contender now looks like the top pick in Cincinnati to win the league. SMU won a see-saw contents over Memphis as the Mustangs hit a late field […]
Memphis and SMU gave us quite the show last year towards the end of the season with Memphis edging SMU 54-48 last year. This game will be at the start of the American Atheltic Conference this year and this year the game will be in Dallas rather than in Memphis like last year. The two […]

While there was a number of great match-ups in all of college football this weekend, the biggest news of the week was the return to play of the Power Five’s Big 10 Conference. The news of the Big 10 returning has the two Group of Five leagues that canceled five weeks ago contemplating on their […]
The Sun Belt is the Fun Belt definitely after Week 2!! And the Sun Belt Conference seems to own the Power Five Big 12 Conference this year. Three Sun Belt teams went on the road to Big 12 squads this past Saturday and all three will be coming home with victories. Louisiana, Arkansas State, and […]

The 2020 college football season begins in earnest this week for most of the Big 12 Conference teams.
Wow, what a showing by the BYU Cougars on Labor Day evening. In my preview of the game, I thought BYU was going to win but to blowout a 11-win Navy team on their home field. Never thought that would happen. The COVID 19 pandamic did make for little atmosphere at Navy. Even the Brigade […]
The college football season continues to get underway as UAB travels to south Florida on Thursday to take on Miami.

CSJ will show weekly rankings from the Sagarin rankings throughout the season and will have a final ranking after the national championship game in January. Keep in mind that all 65 G5 schools were considered […]
How do we organize these programs in a way that is enticing for them, without breaking the proverbial bank while also creating a potentially better G5 product overall as well?
A black pall was cast over college football not once, but twice in 1970.
On Wednesday, August 5th 2020, we were finally given the answer we have all been waiting for from the NCAA with regards to the continuation of the 2020 fall sports season.
Writers across the nation struggle with the fact that all their work may be all for naught. Athletes worry their off-season efforts and senior years may be futile. And fans have fleeting hope whether some football or none will be played in the fall. This pandemic has emotions heightened, tempers flaring, and heartache growing, yet […]
It has been a wacky 2020, hasn’t it? The year started out like most years. The Group of Five played four bowl games in this calendar year, as did the FCS national title game. All played with fans in the stands and played without any idea of what was to come. Cincinnati easily won the […]
Despite the bungling and mismanagement of the NCAA, President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors, they still have one final chance to get on the right side of history and submit to reality.
It seems like nationally, college football people really don’t seem to have any idea about the talent, passion, and tradition that goes on at FCS schools, or what makes them the ideal out-of-conference opponents.
Roy Kramer’s career can best be summed up in segments of about 12 years, and each coincides with the growth of football at the high school and collegiate level all across the nation.
Emmert’s long silence about the subject of FCS football was broken today, where he showed himself to be as equally ignorant as he is unable to stick up for the athletes ostensibly under his charge.
