Furman 35, Western Carolina 7
Recap
GREENVILLE, S.C. — Hamp Sisson passed for 207 yards and three touchdowns and Furman shook off a slow start on the way to 35-7 victory over Western Carolina in the 2021 spring season opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Paladin Stadium.
Returning to the field after a 448-day absence due in large measure to the pandemic, Furman (1-0) fell behind early after Western Carolina’s Jacob Harris stepped in front of a Sisson pass on the game’s first possession and returned it 46 yards to the Paladin 12 to set up a 10-yard scoring run by Ryan Glover that helped give the Catamounts a 7-0 lead.
It was all Furman after that, however, as the Paladins registered 91 plays and 33 first downs while rolling up 533 yards in offense while also stifling Western Carolina (0-4, 0-1 SoCon) offensively, limiting the Catamounts to only five first downs and 109 total yards.
