Recap

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford football team rolled up 630 yards of total offense on its way to an impressive 55-27 win over Western Carolina Saturday afternoon at Seibert Stadium.

“I saw a lot of improvement, but we still have a long way to go in certain areas,” Samford head coach Chris Hatcher said. “All-in-all I’m really excited. We forced some turnovers defensively. We made some good plays in the special teams that we didn’t make last week. Offensively, we got in rhythm, we ran the ball extremely well, and I thought Liam (Welch) managed the game.”

For Samford in the win, Liam Welch completed 26-of-36 passes for a career-high 311 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed 18 times for 83 yards and three touchdowns. Jay Stanton had 23 carries for 135 yards and a touchdown. A.J. Toney led all receivers with nine catches for 77 yards and a touchdown. Kendall Watson also had a touchdown reception in the win.
