RICHMOND, Va. – The 131st meeting of “The South’s Oldest Rivalry” came down to the fourth quarter and the University of Richmond football team controlled the final 11:56 of the game taking home a 21-14 Capital Cup victory Saturday afternoon at Robins Stadium. The Capital Cup series is now tie at 63-63-5 all-time between the two rivals.The game was the first for the Spiders in 470 days due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the first of six regular season Colonial Athletic Association games this spring.

The Spiders held possession of the ball for 10:09 over the last 12 minutes of the game, putting together a go-ahead drive, forcing a three-and-out and clinching the victory with a final drive that ran out the clock on the Tribe. With the Spiders trailing 14-13 with under 12 minutes remaining, redshirt senior quarterback Joe Mancuso (Blairsville, Ga.) led Richmond down the field on a 14-play, 77-yard drive retaking the lead.
