2017 In A Sentence: After losing on the road to Howard 26-24 on September 24th, lesser teams might have stumbled, but the Wildcats rebounded and finished the year strong, winning six of their last seven to end with a respectable 7-4 record.
Biggest Shoes to Fill: S Diquan Richardson was the unquestioned big dog on defense, leading the team in both tackles (84) and interceptions (5).
Key Player: Going into last season, the Wildcats had little returning on the offensive line, but by the end of the season, Eastern Michigan transfer and cancer survivor OL Dwayne Brown had established himself as one of the top offensive linemen in the MEAC, providing tremendous protection for Bethune-Cookman’s QBs. He’ll be looking to finish his final year of eligibility with a season to remember.
Fearless Prediction: The sexy dark horse pick to upset North Carolina A&T at the top of the MEAC might be Howard, but don’t overlook the Wildcats, who return much of their team from last season and host NCAT and Howard this season in the friendly, acoustic confines of Municipal Stadium this year.
