2021 FCS Season Preview: Weber State Wildcats

Weber State is coming into the season with a four-time conference title they look to defend vigorously. No one has been able to fully control or stop the Wildcats the past four seasons. Whether Josh Davis is running the ball down opponents sidelines or any of the talented edge rushers are smashing the quarterbacks the Big Sky as a whole have not been able to keep Weber State out of the title share.

Key Players

Josh Davis – Running Back – 5’9” 195 lbs.- Senior

Davis has been a perennial talent that wreaks havoc across the Big Sky. In 2019, Davis tallied 1,176 yards and 11 touchdowns. Now that this all conference back is healthy again Weber State will be revamped and ready for rough conference play.

Connor Mortensen – Linebacker – 6’0” 210 lbs. – Senior

Mortensen is a pleasant surprise to add to the already deep linebacker award list. The Big Sky seems to be a pro prospect factory at linebacker as these stars may have a chance at NFL tryouts. Mortensen will need to be a huge leader to keep the ship headed towards a five-peat conference championship.

Predicted Finish

Third. At some point, the repeat has to stop right? Last season was not Weber’s strongest showing at all and they will now have to compete with Montana and Montana State in the title race. While the Wildcats avoid playing themselves and Montana it will not be an easy road as they have a Top 25 FBS Utah and Top 25 FCS James Madison in the first three weeks of the season. With at least two foreseeable losses and hungry-eyed Big Sky competition looking for their chance at the crown this will be the year Weber State trips just once and loses out of the title share.
