COLLEGE SPORTS JOURNAL SAGARIN FCS TOP 25 – SEPT. 30

Here are the Top 25 FCS rankings based on the Sagarin rankings for the week ending Sept. 30th, 2023 following the Week 4 games. We will will have a final ranking after all bowl games and the national championship game in January.

South Dakota State remains in the top spot as the Jackrabbits have started the season at the #1 team. The Jackrabbits remain undefeated after defeated after opening up Missouri Valley Football Conference at home with a rather easy win over North Dakota.

Montana State moves up to the #2 position this week after the Bobcats defeated Portland State at home this week.

North Dakota State moves down a spot this week after the Bison suffered their first loss of the season with a MVFC opener and homecoming loss to South Dakota.

Southern Illinois and Idaho swap spots this week to round out the Top Five. SIU moves up to the #4 position after the Salukis remain undefeated following a home MVFC opening win over Missouri State. Idaho moves down a spot despite the Vandals defeating Eastern Washington on the road.

Sagarin rankings provide the only rankings that actually ranks all Division I schools but our rankings will show just the FCS side of things and have been used for several years with his own computer ranking system to distinguish strength of schedule and strength of team when comparing teams.

In the rankings, you will see the the FCS rankings first and the overall Division I ranking to the right of the the FCS ranking.

The numbers show the ranking in the FCS Top 25 as well as the overall Division I ranking.

The Top 10 and Top 30 are the overall Division I Sagarin rankings.
