Below are the Top 25 Mid-Major rankings based on the Sagarin rankings for the week ending Mar. 12th, 2022. This will be the final regular season poll. A final rankings will be placed after the national title game in April.
Murray State stays in the top position this week. The Racers won the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament a week ago and will be an automatic selection to the NCAA Tournament.
South Dakota State moves up a spot to the #2 position this week. The Jackrabbits won the Summit League Tournament with a championship game victory over North Dakota State to win its 21st game. SDSU was the first Summit League team to go undefeated in league play and won three more games against league opponents in the tournament.
Toledo moves down a spot to the #3 position this week. The Rockets lost in the MAC semifinal round to eventual MAC champion Akron. Toledo as the regular season MAC champion will get a spot in the NIT Tournament.
Belmont stays in the #4 spot this week. The Bruins lost in the OVC Tournament championship game to Murray State. Belmont will await its NIT or other tournament fate.
Vermont moves up to the fifth position this week. The Catamounts won the America East tournament championship this past week with a win over UMBC and will enter the NCAA Tournament this upcoming week.
The Mid-Major conferences include America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, and Western Athletic conferences.
Sagarin rankings provide the only rankings that actually ranks all Division I schools but our rankings will show just the Mid-Major side of things and have been used for several years with his own computer ranking system to distinguish strength of schedule and strength of team when comparing teams.
In the rankings, you will see the the Mid-Major rankings first and the overall Division I ranking to the right of the the Mid-Major ranking.
