College Sports Journal FCS National Players of the Week Nov. 5

Five players including Daniel Smith from Campbell, Larry Brihm, Jr. from Bethune-Cookman, Ricky Davis from Youngstown State, Connor Strahm from Montana, and Corey McCullough from Alcorn State have been selected as the College Sports Journal All-Stars for the week ending Oct. 29th, 2017 from the NCAA Division I FCS schools.

The honorees are listed here with their achievements and their school, position, class, and hometown.

Campbell QB Daniel Smith

Daniel Smith, Campbell, QB, R-Fr., Leesburg, Va.

The FCS lead in rushing yards belongs to Smith after he set the Campbell single-game record with 289 yards plus four touchdowns on 23 carries in the Camels’ 42-29 P triumph over Davidson. Smith, whose 1,189 rushing yards with one game to go also are a program record, scored on runs of 3, 20, 80 and 18 yards. He also passed for a touchdown, going 7 of 18 for 156 yards with one interception.

BCC QB Larry Brihm, Jr.

Larry Brihm, Jr., Bethune-Cookman, QB, R-Sr., Delray Beach, Fla.

Brihm threw for a season- and career-high matching 354 yards and a career-high five touchdowns as Bethune-Cookman defeated Morgan State 41-28 on Saturday. He found eight different receivers on 23-of-30 passing and tied a school record for touchdown passes in a single game with five.

YSU QB Ricky Davis

Ricky Davis, Youngstown State, QB, Sr., Middletown, Ohio

In his first start of the season, Davis accounted for six touchdowns and had career highs in passing yards and rushing yards in the Penguins’ 66-24 win at Indiana State. Davis completed 10-of-12 passes for 349 yards and four scores. His yardage total was the fourth-most in school history and the most by a YSU QB since 1983. He also added 98 yards rushing and two scores on 14 attempts. He had scoring runs of one and 57 yards in the first quarter.

Montana LB Connor Strahm

Connor Strahm, Montana, LB, Eugene, Ore.

Strahm led Montana with 16 tackles in the 17-15 win over Northern Arizona at home. The linebacker also recorded a sack, 2.5 tackles-for-loss, and forced fumble that led to a go-ahead touchdown for the Grizzlies in the win over Northern Arizona.

Alcorn State K/P Corey McCullough

 

Corey McCullough, Alcorn State, K/P, So., Louisville, Miss.

McCullough broke the Alcorn State single-season field goal record Saturday in the team’s 47-22 victory over Alabama A&M. McCullough drilled four field goals (24, 37, 38 and 39 yards) and now has made 14 this season. McCullough also punted six times for 309 yards for a 51.5 average. His long was 56 yards.
