COLLEGE SPORTS JOURNAL SAGARIN FCS TOP 25 – SEPT. 29
Here are the Top 25 FCS rankings based on the Sagarin rankings for the week ending Sept. 29th, 2024 following the Week 5 games. We will will have a final ranking after all bowl games and the national championship game in January.
South Dakota State remains in the top spot after having a bye week this past week. MVFC mate North Dakota State stays the second position after the Bison began Missouri Valley Football Conference play with a win on the road over Illinois State.
South Dakota stays at the #3 position to makes it three MVFC in the Top 3. The Coyotes beat Southern Illinois at home to start their MVFC play.
Montana State moves up two spots to the #4 spot this week after the Bobcats started Big Sky Conference play on the road with a rather easy win over Idaho State. Fellow BSC member Montana rounds out the Top 5 but drops a spot after narrowly winning it BSC opener on the road over Eastern Washington.
Sagarin rankings provide the only rankings that actually ranks all Division I schools but our rankings will show just the FCS side of things and have been used for several years with his own computer ranking system to distinguish strength of schedule and strength of team when comparing teams.
Please note that FBS transitioning teams of Delaware and Missouri State will be a part of the 2024 rankings. Also note that these two while playing in their current conferences of the Coastal Athletic Association for Delaware and the Missouri Valley Football Conference for Missouri State, those two teams will have the indication of I-AA=>I-A conference affiliation in these rankings. Those two teams will not be eligible for the FCS playoffs and will also be categorized individually in the conference rankings.

The numbers show the ranking in the FCS Top 25 as well as the overall Division I ranking.
The Top 10 and Top 30 are the overall Division I Sagarin rankings.
