College Sports Journal Sagarin High Major Men’s Basketball Top 25 – Feb. 12

Below are the Top 25 High Major rankings based on the Sagarin rankings for the week ending Feb. 12th, 2023.

Houston remains in the #1 position as well as the top spot overall in the rankings as the Cougars won its lone game this past week over Tulsa in AAC play.

Gonzaga moves up one position to the #2 position in this week’s rankings. The Bulldogs won their two WCC games this week at home over San Francisco and BYU.

Saint Mary’s moves down a spot to the #3 slot this week after splitting their two WCC games this past week. The Gaels lost at Loyola Marymount but rebounded to defeat Portland on the road.

San Diego State remains at the #4 position after the Aztecs won its two Mountain West games this week over Utah State and UNLV.

Memphis moves moves up a spot to get into the Top 5 at the #5 position this week. The Tigers won its two AAC contests this past week over South Florida and Temple.

The 2022-23 season will culminate with the national championship from NRG Stadium in Houston on April 3rd. CSJ will complete a weekly Sagarin rankings of the High Major teams throughout the regular season and do a final ranking after the national tournament is complete.

The High-Major conferences include AAC, A-10, Conference USA, Mountain West, West Coast, and Missouri Valley conferences. These conferences have historically been multiple bid leagues in the middle ground between the Power Six conferences and the typically one-bid mid-major conferences.

Sagarin rankings provide the only rankings that actually ranks all Division I schools but our rankings will show just the High Major side of things and have been used for several years with his own computer ranking system to distinguish strength of schedule and strength of team when comparing teams.
