Below are the Top 25 Mid-Major rankings based on the Sagarin rankings for the week ending Mar. 6th, 2022.
Murray State stays in the top position this week. The Racers won the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament this past weekend and will be an automatic selection to the NCAA Tournament. Murray State defeated Southeast Missouri State and Morehead State in the OVC Tournament to get that automatic bid.
Toledo moves up two spots to the #2 position this week. The Rockets defeated Buffalo and Bowling Green in MAC play this past week and will go into the MAC Tournament as the top seed. Toledo will play Central Michigan to begin the tournament later this week.
South Dakota State moves down a spot to the #3 position this week. The Jackrabbits opened up Summit League Tournament play with a win over Omaha and will continue the Summit League Tournament into this week by first playing in-state rival South Dakota in the semi-finals.
Belmont moves down to the #4 spot after losing to Morehead State in the OVC Tournament. The Bruins have now finished their season and likely will hope for an NIT bid.
Chattanooga stays in the fifth position this week. The Mocs defeated The Citadel and Wofford in the Southern Conference tournament. Chattanooga by winning those two game are in the SoCon Tournament championship Monday against Furman.
The Mid-Major conferences include America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, and Western Athletic conferences.
Sagarin rankings provide the only rankings that actually ranks all Division I schools but our rankings will show just the Mid-Major side of things and have been used for several years with his own computer ranking system to distinguish strength of schedule and strength of team when comparing teams.
In the rankings, you will see the the Mid-Major rankings first and the overall Division I ranking to the right of the the Mid-Major ranking.
