FBS G5 Conference Championships Recap and Highlights

This week was the conference title game Saturday for most conferences (aside from the Sun Belt) where each divisional winner played each other to determine the conference champion.

The American title game started the day with an offensive explosion that went to double overtime before the game was decided where UCF found by the end of the day that it was the loan undefeated team left in all of the FBS ranks after the Knights defeated Memphis. Its reward will undoubtedly be to a New Year’s Six Bowl game.

The other conference title game champions were Florida Atlantic in Conference USA after a pounding of North Texas, Toledo in the MAC after it routed Akron, and Boise State in the Mountain West that squeaked by Fresno State late in the game (a week after Fresno State defeated the Broncos) that BSU got revenge.

The Sun Belt Conference did not have a title game but had a pseudo title game where Troy defeated Arkansas State on the road to tie Appalachian State, who earlier in the day blew by Louisiana. The Trojans and Mountaineers did not play during the season so those two will be true co-champions.

Another big happening with the lone undefeated team in G5 (and all of FBS play) was UCF Coach Scott Frost was announced the new head man at the Big 10’s Nebraska–a place where he had won a national title as the starting quarterback in the mid-1990s.
