Gridiron Power Index 10/11/2023 – Harvard, Youngstown State, Central Arkansas, North Carolina Central Big GPI Movers This Week

BETHLEHEM, PA – There was shuffling in the Top 10 of the Gridiron Power Index this week, with big movers Harvard, Youngstown State, Central Arkansas and NCCU making moves in the poll.

Harvard (4-0, 2-0) leaped up four spots from 18 to 14 after their dominating 41-23 win over Cornell on Friday night, broadcast on ESPN2. Harvard is one of only two FCS teams that are currently undefeated in the 2023 season – No. 1 South Dakota State (5-0, 2-0) is the other.

No. 15 Youngstown State (3-2, 1-1), who dropped out of the GPI last week, came back into it in a big way after their dominating 31-3 upset of Southern Illinois (4-1, 1-1), who dropped from 3rd to 7th. Overall, there are seven Missouri Valley football teams in the GPI this week.

No. 20 Central Arkansas (4-2, 2-0) have been flirting with the Top 25 several weeks but entered in a big way this week, coming in at No. 20. Their incredible come-from-behind win over SEMO 38-32, with 32 4th quarter points, is what propelled them in.

Finally North Carolina Central (5-1, 0-0) makes the MEAC’s first entry into the GPI this week with their double digit 34-23 win over Elon. The Eagles defense feasted on the Phoenix offense, notching 14 tackles for loss, including eight sacks.

The 2023 version of the GPI is comprised of five different human polls (FCS Stats Perform Top 25, FCS Coaches, Reddit FCS, Any Given Saturday, and the FCS Fans Nation Media) and five different historic and respected computer polls (Laz Index, Massey Ratings, Sagarin Ratings, Keeper Ratings, and Dwiggins Ratings). All five computer rankings were at one time a part of the original GPI.

The highest and lowest rankings are dropped, and the remaining polls are averaged. Whenever possible “Others Receiving Votes” have been included in the index.
