2017 In A Sentence: The Bobcats finished 2-10 (1-7 Sun Belt) for the second consecutive season in Coach Withers’ second season in San Marcos.
Biggest Shoes to Fill: TE Gabe Schrade was a two-year captain for the Bobcats. He was on the watch list for the John Mackey Award, which is given to the nation’s best tight end. He also was nominated for the AFCA Good Works Team and Weurffel Trophy last year. Schrade ranked second among Sun Belt Conference tight ends with 20 receptions for 287 yards, while catching two touchdown passes in 2017.
Key Player: LB Bryan London II enters the 2018 season with 24 consecutive starts after starting all 12 games as a redshirt freshman and sophomore. London led the Bobcats and ranked 10th in the Sun Belt with 91 tackles as a sophomore after ranking third in the nation with a 141 tackles as a freshman. He earned All-SBC Honorable Mention honors in 2016 and 2017.
Fearless Prediction: Texas State has just 12 seniors on the roster so this team will be yet again a young team. One advantage over the past year, however, is that many of these sophomores and juniors are now experienced. Most likely this will not result in many more victories this year but the turnaround for the Bobcats should be coming.
