College Sports Journal Sagarin FBS G5 Top 25–Oct. 19

Here are the Top 25 G5 rankings based on the Sagarin rankings for the week ending Oct. 19th, 2024 following the Week 8 games. We will will have a final ranking after all bowl games and the national championship game in January.
Sagarin rankings provide the only rankings that actually ranks all Division I schools but our rankings will show just the G5 side of things and have been used for several years with his own computer ranking system to distinguish strength of schedule and strength of team when comparing teams.

Boise State stays as the top team after the Broncos had a bye this week. UNLV moves up a spot to the second spot this week after the Rebels defeated Oregon State on the road. Those two teams will meet in Las Vegas this upcoming week in what likely will help decide which of these Mountain West teams will have the inside track towards the College Football Playoff spot.
Tulane moves down a spot to the #3 position this week despite the Green Wave winning at home over Rice this week. Memphis moves up a spot to the fourth position this week after the Tigers won a close match-up at home over North Texas.
Army moves up a spot to the #5 position to round out the Top 5. The Black Knights easily defeated East Carolina this week at home to stay undefeated.
Outside of Army, there are two other G5 undefeated teams as of this week are Navy–ranked #8 and Liberty–ranked #12.
The FBS is moving this year to a 12-team playoff with the top five conferences getting an automatic bid so that means at least one G5 team will be represented in the new playoff structure.

In the rankings, you will see the the G5 rankings first and the overall Division I ranking to the right of the the G5 ranking.
The numbers show the ranking in the Group of Five Top 25 as well as the overall Division I ranking.
The Top 10 and Top 30 are the overall Division I Sagarin rankings.
