College Sports Journal Sagarin High Major Men’s Basketball Top 25 – Nov. 20
Below are the Top 25 High Major rankings based on the Sagarin rankings for the week ending Nov. 20th, 2022. Houston moves up a spot to take over the #1 position not only amongst the High Majors but in all of college basketball this week. The Cougars notched home victories over Oral Roberts and Texas Southern as well as an impressive road win at Oregon to remain undefeated.
Gonzaga moves down a spot to the #2 position not only in the High Majors but in all of college basketball. The Bulldogs lost their first game on the road to start last week at another Top 10 ranked overall team in Texas but then rebounded to take out another Top 20 team in Kentucky in Spokane.
Saint Mary’s stays in the #3 slot this week after the Gaels stayed undefeated with two home wins over Southern and Hofstra.
San Diego State stays in the #4 position as the Aztecs won its lone game last week over the Pac-12’s Stanford on the road.
Memphis moves into the Top 5 this week after just being outside the Top 5 last week. The Tigers though finished with a win and a loss last week–losing at Saint Louis but rebounded to defeat Virginia Commonwealth.
The 2022-23 season will culminate with the national championship from NRG Stadium in Houston on April 3rd. CSJ will complete a weekly Sagarin rankings of the High Major teams throughout the regular season and do a final ranking after the national tournament is complete.
The High-Major conferences include AAC, A-10, Conference USA, Mountain West, West Coast, and Missouri Valley conferences. These conferences have historically been multiple bid leagues in the middle ground between the Power Six conferences and the typically one-bid mid-major conferences.
Sagarin rankings provide the only rankings that actually ranks all Division I schools but our rankings will show just the High Major side of things and have been used for several years with his own computer ranking system to distinguish strength of schedule and strength of team when comparing teams.
