2017 In A Sentence: The Mean Green came up with a nine-win season (9-5) with a shot at the Conference USA title, but the defense left the building for the rematch of a regular season game against Florida Atlantic – the Owls hung up 110 points in the two wins – followed up by a 50-30 blowout loss to Troy in the New Orleans Bowl so it ended on a three game losing streak.

Biggest Shoes to Fill: RB Jeffery Wilson was a second-team All-CUSA performer last year. He rushed for a conference fourth best 1,215 yards and 16 scores. He was signed by as an undrafted free agent by the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers and has a very good chance to make the team per reports.

Key Player: QB Mason Fine is a bit undersized at just 5’11” but still was voted as the C-USA Offensive Player of the Year last year. He passed for 4,052 yards and a league best 31 scores in his sophomore season. He was the key reason why UNT set school records for points (497), total yards (6,366), and first downs (340).

Fearless Prediction: With a total of 16 starters back, the Mean Green will challenge for the C-USA West Division once again and if all falls well will again play in the conference’s championship game. It is all but a certainty that this team will be going to another bowl game.
