Below are the Top 25 Group of Five (G5) preseason rankings based on the Sagarin rankings for the 2020 season. CSJ will show weekly rankings from the Sagarin rankings throughout the season and will have a final ranking after the national championship game in January.
Keep in mind that all 65 G5 schools were considered in this preseason list but note that the Mid-American and Mountain West Conferences, along with independents of UMass, UConn, and New Mexico State, as well as C-USA’s Old Dominion will not be playing this fall.
This means there will be 37 teams competing this fall amongst the G5 schools in the American, Conference USA, and Sun Belt Conferences to go with three independents of Army, BYU, and Liberty. Future rankings will only feature these squads competing this fall.
Sagarin rankings provide the only rankings that actually ranks all Division I schools but our rankings will show just the G5 side of things from these. As has been used for several years, his own computer ranking system distinguish strength of schedule and strength of team when comparing teams.
In the rankings, you will see the the G5 rankings first and the overall Division I ranking to the right of the the G5 ranking.
