Five weeks from selection Sunday. Here is how our top 25 looks this week.
Another week, another swath of conference upsets mixing up the top 25. Will this week be calm or will we flip it all on its head again?
With the results of last week, there are some major shakeups in the top 25 this week.
This past week was highlighted by two top notch matchups. So many of the top ten teams played close, one score conference games. That’s what we should expect the rest of the way.
. There were a couple big games and a few upsets along the way. Now we settle in for conference play which will have these teams moving up and down week after week. Who will emerge at the end?
It was week with not a lot of excitement from an upset stand point in the FCS this week. Because of that, there are just small moves here and there in the top 25.
There were two more FCS over FBS wins this past weekend as Jacksonville State and Duquesne were able to beat FBS foes.
We finally got to stop talking about football and start watching it.

It was again calm at the top and crazy in the middle of the top 25 from last week. Selection Sunday is this weekend. The playoff field will be set and it will be time for the post season.
As chaotic as last week was, this week was as docile. The highest ranked team from last week’s College Sports Journal top 25 that lost was #13. We do have a new #1 team here at College Sports Journal this week.
As expected there was a bunch of movement this week. The biggest shock is the one everyone has been talking about: North Dakota State not only lost, but lost big. It still remains to be seen how the Bison will wind up this Spring, but last week was their worst game in almost a decade.
Here is this week’s College Sports Journal Top 25 as voted on by the staff.

While FAMU had a bye week, losses coupled with upsets caused shifts in both the BOXTOROW Coaches and Media Polls. The Rattlers are the unanimous No. 1 in both polls for the first time in the history of the polls.
While North Dakota State and James Madison continued to beat their opponents into submission, out west, Weber State and Sacramento State each used strong 4th quarter comebacks to maintain their place in the standings. Weber State at Montana looms large this week for the playoff seeding discussion.
The North Carolina A&T Aggies win over South Carolina State in the marquee game of the weekend caused slight shifts in both the BOXTOROW Coaches and Media Polls. Florida A&M defeated Delaware State and remained No. 1.
Weber State showed it’s the best team in the Big Sky, and may be the best team in the country with its 19 point win over Sacramento State.
As Florida A&M handled Morgan State to win its second straight game and stay atop both the BOXTOROW Coaches and Media Polls, it was South Carolina State’s victory over Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach that caused movements in the polls.
The Dakota Marker is staying Fargo after an exciting finish that saw Matt Entz gamble on 4th down in his own territory. Adam Cofield took the carry 71 yards for the game winning points. Elsewhere, James Madison, Weber State and Sacramento State affirmed themselves as the rest of the top five. The rest of the FCS seems to be in flux with different teams elevating and dropping week over week.
As we are about half way through the season, we are going to take a look at the FCS rankings through a different prism. At the end of the article, youll still get the full College Sports Journal Top 25, so don’t stop reading! We will look at the teams in a tiered setup focusing […]
It was a week of marquee matchups across the FCS. North Dakota State, James Madison and South Dakota State all proved that they are the top three teams in the country by dispatching of top 20 opponents, each winning by double digits and scoring three times in the fourth quarter.
It was another up and down week in the FCS. The top of the order all picked up wins, where the middle and bottom were all over the place. North Dakota State reasserted its dominance. A couple of the early darlings in the Southland, Central Arkansas and Southeastern Louisiana both fell. North Dakota State Bison […]
The North Carolina A&T Aggies continue to hold the top spot in HBCU football as the newest rankings of the BOXTOROW Coaches and Media Polls were released on Monday. The Aggies received all of the first place votes in both polls.
We finally had our first crazy weekend of the FCS season. Eight of last week’s top 25 fell, but we saw the reemergence of a one time national power. Montana travelled to UC Davis and easily stopped the Aggies in a game that was never close. The Grizzlies look like they, along with Montana State and Weber State, are the class of the Big Sky.
The North Carolina A&T Aggies remain No.1 in the BOXTOROW Coaches and Media Polls for the fourth straight week. The Aggies’ reign as the top team in HBCU football goes back to Week 10 of the 2018 season. In the coaches poll, the most significant moves up were made by No. 5 Arkansas-Pine Bluff and […]
North Dakota State faced down their first real test of the season and survived. UC Davis give the Bison all they could handle, but in the end, NDSU’s defense saved the day. In what turned out to be the game of the weekend, Villanova showed that their 3-0 start wasn’t a fluke with a 52-45 OT win over Towson. Most teams will be into conference play from here on, so look for the crème to really rise to the top.
Without question the top FCS game of the week was the battle of FCS powerhouses in the Fargodome.Returning home after 47-22 victory the week before against Delaware, the heavily-favored Bison had a very tough battle against visiting UC Davis, ultimately winning 27-16 after scoring a late touchdown to finally put the game in the win column for North Dakota State.
Week three was highlighted by a couple of much maligned teams pulling off exciting upsets – Houston Baptist 53-52 over South Dakota and VMI 31-24 over East Tennessee State in overtime. The marquee matchup of the week certainly lived up to its billing. Jacksonville State stormed back with 21 fourth quarter points to beat Eastern […]
It was a week of high-profile Top 25 clashes in FCS this week, as the marquee games of the week pitted Delaware vs. North Dakota State and Eastern Washington vs. Jacksonville State. One was a Bison display of dominance, the other a thriller that could be the game of the year. Adding to the fun of this week’s games was a shootout in Vermillion, South Dakota and another big FBS upset in Georgia.
Week two was a little more tame than week one from a top 25 standpoint. At the bottom of the FCS, six teams lost to sub D1 opponents while only one FCS team was able to beat and FBS team – Southern Illinois easily defeated Massachusetts. Over the first two weeks there have been 100 games against non-FCS teams. This week there are 30, so the FCS picture will start to sharpen. Conference play will swing into full gear over the next two weeks as well.
Week one is in the books in the FCS. There was only one FCS upset over an FBS team, but another 11 teams came within one score of an upset. Many of the top teams played FBS competition, so where was not a lot of movement with those teams in the polls. Bad losses by Jacksonville State and Wofford have plummeted both of those teams.
The College Sports Journal Staff have put their collective heads together to release our 2019 preseason Top 25 for the upcoming FCS season. CSJ’s voter rolls are comprised of our five FCS football writers that have been following and covering FCS football for years.
