Week 0 has become really the first week of college football. What used to be only a handful of games now has blossomed into many more. In fact in the FBS for this year’s Week 0, there were 11 games with eight of those games involving at least one Group of Five school. Week 0.
The first weekend is in the books for the Group of Five teams. Eight bowls were played Dec. 17th and 18th–all involving at least one G5 team in those games. The big story of the weekend was Western Kentucky’s QB Bailey Zappe breaking former LSU QB Joe Burrow’s record with 61st TD pass of season in WKU’s 59-38 win over Appalachian State in the Boca Raton Bowl. Zappe also broke the pass yardage record with over 5,800 yards passing.

What a first week of bowl action of the first ten bowl games of the season! Two games really caught my attention in UCF playing BYU and Coastal Carolina playing Liberty this week before the games started. BYU throttled UCF 49-23 in what looks to be QB Zach Wilson’s final collegiate game in the Boca.
While there was a number of great match-ups in all of college football this weekend, the biggest news of the week was the return to play of the Power Five’s Big 10 Conference. The news of the Big 10 returning has the two Group of Five leagues that canceled five weeks ago contemplating on their.
The 2020 college football season opened for eleven Atlantic Coast Conference teams last week. Miami opened the week with an impressive 31-14 win over UAB while Pittsburgh and Louisville also handled their non-conference foes. The Panthers defeated Austin Peay and the Cardinals used a big second quarter on the way to a win over Western.
Since 2016, in fact, no preseason divisional winner (predicted by the media poll by the conference) has finished atop of their division standings.
