Covering All College Sports Since 2012
The halfway point of the MVFC has just one undefeated team in league play but has three with just one loss. North Dakota State is undefeated in league and is unblemished overall. Northern Iowa, Illinois State, and South Dakota State are the three teams with just one loss at the midpoint of the MVFC schedule..
And then there was one-undefeated team in the Missouri Valley Football Conference that is. A record crowd of 19,371 was on hand at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium following ESPN’s College GameDay broadcast from the South Dakota State campus saw the Jackrabbit faithful disapointed as North Dakota State rallied from a tie game in the fourth.
I have to be honest here -I have a lot of ties to where I sit today to the North Dakota State and South Dakota State Division I transition that happened in 2004.
As of right now, the FCS Playoff field feels like the show “Who’s Line Is It Anyway”, where the picks are just random improvisations of things that end up not making any sense. Nonetheless, we’ll keep pressing on, trying to figure out some version of truth.
The rivalry between the two teams has been alive since 1903. However, this meeting will be the first time that the two will meet under the I-AA umbrella and the first as members of the new Great West Football Conference. Also this year, the two will play for the first time for a trophy: the “Dakota Marker”.
As the Missouri Valley entered into its third week of conference play, three teams remained undefeated going into this week of action. But only two came out of their meetings unscathed. North Dakota State and South Dakota State remained perfect in league play after their wins over Missouri State and Indiana State respectively. The third.
The big question in the Missouri Valley Football Conference right now is there a team that can knock North Dakota State off its current winning streak. The Bison have the second best winning streak in FCS history at 27 (second only to themselves of 33 in 2012-14). NDSU also has a league game winning streak.
The second week of Missouri Valley Football Conference in-conference game resulted in three teams remaining undefeated in conference play. North Dakota State, South Dakota, and South Dakota State are the three schools that moved to 2-0 in league play. NDSU remained the only MVFC undefeated team in all action. This week, NDSU looked vulnerable in.
The MVFC has two Top 25 clashes again this week with the biggest being Northern Iowa visiting North Dakota State. The other is Youngstown State hosting South Dakota State. Counting two games last weekend here have been 175 games in which two MVFC teams ranked in the top 25 played one another. Of those 175.
Don’t bother looking at my previous editions of “Playoffs ‘Til I Die” to get a solid playoff bracket. Like the rest of America, I had Eastern Washington and UC Davis in my brackets and now, let’s just say, they are not. As the Big Sky autobid turns, however, we inch ever closer to a better.
The Missouri Valley Football Conference got into conference play with all 10 teams playing their first game within the league. Two teams went into their conference openers and only one came out unscathed. North Dakota State went to beat Illinois State on the road easily, while Youngstown State traveled to Northern Iowa and left with.
The Missouri Valley Football Conference gets into conference action for the first time this week. And what a first week we have!! Two Top 25 match-ups highlight this week. The first is top ranked North Dakota State visiting Illinois State in a 2015 national championship rematch. The other three games in the league play are.
Week 5 was a slow week in the MVFC with just two teams in action this week. However, there was one big game to finish out the MVFC-Big Sky Challenge. Northern Iowa traveled to Weber State in a battle of Top 10 ranked teams. Youngstown State was the other team in action this week in.
This week, most of the Missouri Valley Football Conference teams have a bye week but two teams are still in action. One of the games this week is a match-up of two Top 10 teams in the final Big Sky-MVFC matchup with Northern Iowa visiting Weber State. The MVFC has already won this year’s challenge.
It would be nice if Eastern Washington would stop making my sample FCS Playoff brackets look so foolish. The first playoff bracket of the season, I had the Eagles in the field as a seed, mostly on the backs of their potential to win the Big Sky. Two losses and a 1-3 record later, I’m.
Without question the top FCS game of the week was the battle of FCS powerhouses in the Fargodome.Returning home after 47-22 victory the week before against Delaware, the heavily-favored Bison had a very tough battle against visiting UC Davis, ultimately winning 27-16 after scoring a late touchdown to finally put the game in the win column for North Dakota State.
Last week, we shook the dust off our first laughable attempt at picking an FCS Playoff field, and this week, we make another laughable attempt at picking an FCS Playoff field, but with a few more data points so that it’s, well, a tiny bit less hilarious. This week, we saw North Dakota State extend.
It was a week of high-profile Top 25 clashes in FCS this week, as the marquee games of the week pitted Delaware vs. North Dakota State and Eastern Washington vs. Jacksonville State. One was a Bison display of dominance, the other a thriller that could be the game of the year. Adding to the fun of this week’s games was a shootout in Vermillion, South Dakota and another big FBS upset in Georgia.
There truly is a never-ending search for content, a fact I was reminded of when I was politely and earnestly asked this week about coming up with an FCS playoff projection for the 2019 season.
The Missouri Valley Football Conference as a whole had a much better week than in Week 1 during this past Week 2. The league as a whole went 6-3 with one of the highlight wins being Southern Illinois’ win at FBS Massachusetts. Two of the losses were to FBS teams with Western Illinois falling at.
Week One saw quite a few Power 5 FBS teams celebrate wins against powerful FCS teams as if they had won a bowl game. Only one FCS program, Central Arkansas, managed to knock off an FBS opponent: for the second straight year, Western Kentucky was defeated by an FCS program
The Missouri Valley went a somewhat disappointing 1-8 in the opening week with North Dakota State picking up the loan victory. South Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Indiana State, and Illinois State all lost to FBS foes. Southern Illinois, South Dakota, and Missouri State lost to fellow FCS opponents. While there was just one win, both.
The MVFC continues to be the premier conference in the FCS having now had at least one national title game representative for the past eight seasons (NDSU- 7 times, Youngstown State – 1 time, Illinois State – 1 time) and seven national titles over the span.
It’s May. Spring football is over, and the preseason camps don’t start for a couple months. We are in the doldrums of the FCS offseason. But at this point, everyone is 0-0 and hope springs eternal. 127 schools think they have a shot to make the playoffs and compete for an FCS Championship in Frisco..

This year, North Dakota State will play for its unprecedented seventh Division I title in football this decade when they face one of just three schools to win a national title this decade in Eastern Washington. South Dakota State is exactly where it was last year in a semifinal round game. This year’s road contest is one that the Jackrabbits know well–just up I-29 to Fargo to play Dakota Marker rival North Dakota State.
South Dakota State surged to a 20-3 lead, and had to withstand a late Kennesaw State surge behind backup quarterback Daniel David, but late in the fourth quarter the Jackrabbits were able to close out a thrilling semifinal with a 27-17 victory.
Top seeded North Dakota State advanced to their eighth straight Division I FCS semifinals with a 35-0 win over eighth seeded Colgate before 16,404 fans at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome.
Kennesaw State’s dream season continues as they reach the FCS Playoff quarterfinals for the second straight year. Unlike last year, however, when the Owls had to make a trip to Huntsville, Texas to play Sam Houston State, this time out they will be hosting one of the perennial powers of the Missouri Valley Football Conference, South Dakota State.
